Gerald E. Smith - Mayor

Gerald was born and raised in the town of Burkeville. He entered the Virginia Army National Guard in November 1988 while working for the Virginia Department of Corrections for 7 years, where he later was sworn as a Deputy for the City of Richmond, Virginia for 8 years. Gerald returned to active military duty in August 2000 where he served under Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. He served as Special Agent and originator of the first Special Response Team for Counterterrorism created by then President Clinton for 10 years, then later completing his military career as a retiree in July 2019. Gerald was later elected as a Councilman for Burkeville in 2020, and is currently serving as Mayor.
